Chromatic Octagon is a site-specific suspended artwork for the main entrance of the new Selby Hospital.
Aether & Hemera’s creative approach aims at exploring the unique qualities of each architectural project to create site-specific artworks that feel integrated with the design. In New Selby Hospital this resulted in a suspended artwork, dialoguing with the octagonal geometry of the void and with the privileged viewpoints of user paths; it is visible in the main entrance and waiting area but also from the first and second floors.
Aether & Hemera’s suspended dichroic glass installation is designed to catch the sunlight from the above aperture, creating magical reflections of coloured lights and shadows around them, to steer relief and easing emotions.
A Public Art project commissioned by NHS North Yorkshire and York.
