We are delighted that our proposal has been selected for the new Amble sculpture trail!

The chosen route for the walk encompasses a varied range of landscapes, environments, backdrops and habitats, allowing artistic responses through a variety of media. The trail will align with the planned coastal path, being accessible at locations between Hauxley Nature Reserve, following the coastline to Amble, through the town and along the river Coquet to the bottom of Beal Bank, Warkworth.

Amble is a bustling port on the Coquet estuary in Northumberland at the southern gateway to the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is an important destination in a large rural county that is renowned for attracting birders / birdwatchers from around the world. The town celebrates its natural assets through the UK’s only Puffin Festival which has been inspired by the 36,000 puffin colony on nearby Coquet Island, an RSPB sanctuary. In the early summer months, a diversity of seabirds can be seen including terns, razorbills, kittiwakes,  shags  and guillemots, and one of Britain's rarest seabirds, the roseate tern.

Amble Trust - the commissioner-  is seeking bird-inspired  artworks that will artistically showcase the diversity of birdlife found in the local landscape through a range of sculptural, sound / music, text/ poetry and digital technology platform experiences. The Trust’s ambition is that this will be a ‘must see’ immersive experience that is all encompassing and brings a heightened awareness to audiences of the relationship between the landscape and the world of ornithology.
